We needed to test our autopilot again, so decided on a short hop up the cost to Brookings. We left the Crescent City dock on April 15 and it ended up taking about 5.5 hours to get to Brookings. The autopilot did not work right…again. This is really bumming us out. But the seas were acceptable, and we had no seasickness this time. On our tour of the Battery Point Lighthouse in Crescent City, we’d seen the Saint Georges Lighthouse about 5 miles up the coast. On our way to Brookings, we got to see it from the Pacific Ocean side. We passed by it about a mile away because it is there as a warning of the massive reef system that juts out from the coast for 7 miles. I wrote more about it in my Touring Crescent City blog post.

We pulled into the Brookings transient dock and walked to The Hungary Clam restaurant for a fish and chips victory meal. Tim is returning home from this port, so we will miss him as we continue to make our way up the coast. He’s been making the best of it, but the autopilot problems, sparse weather windows for traveling up the coast, and the salmon season closed this year have dampened some of the fun parts of the trip so far. He hopes to come to visit when we get to the San Juan Islands.
Next on the agenda is to get this autopilot fixed or to replace it!
