Last week there was a Catalina rendezvous at Roche Harbor. Since Kathy and I were already there, we were excited to join up and meet other owners of Catalinas to get ideas on how to improve our own. Twenty-five boats showed up, and we were quickly overwhelmed with meeting new friends, technical talks, and group activities. It was a lot of fun, but after four days we were mentally exhausted. We haven’t talked to that many people in a long time. But we learned a lot and made some new friends. On Sunday, they started to depart. By Tuesday, we were the last ones here, and we were a little sad.
Today, our lease is up at Roche Harbor. They’ve been great to us over the last few months, and we can’t emphasize that enough. Roche Harbor is a charming small town that is imagined in so many television shows and movies. People know everyone, are friendly, and congregate at the local market. Boats arrive and depart daily at the docks, resulting in an opportunity for me to tell my long boring stories to someone new.

As much as we’ve enjoyed it here, the summer rates haven’t been budgeted, so we’re off to see what’s out there. We have some housekeeping to do today before we can leave. We have to move our car to long term parking; Kathy arranged with the postmaster, Bob, to hold our packages we haven’t received yet; a final shower with lots of hot water.
Well, the trip started off a little rough as the starter battery was dead. I’m still on the fence on whether it needs to be replaced or not. We have a little portable jump starter and we used that to get the engine going. Phew!
We’re on our way to Reed Harbor, a mere five miles away.
