Well, it’s our last day at Roche Harbor Marina. Today we do something we haven’t done in a long time – Move. Kathy and I will now try to remember how to operate the boat again. 😬 Thanks again Roche Harbor Marina for taking such good care of care of us!

Sewing in the nuclear age
Kathy’s making pockets in our weather cloth for the new solar panels. I’ve chosen to manage this project as I know less than nothing about sewing. That entails mostly just asking “how’s it going?” and “when do you think you’ll be done?” every 15 minutes or so. Kathy sometimes makes the mistake of asking myContinue reading “Sewing in the nuclear age”
Power Upgrade!
Adventure has 1100 watts of solar power. I was quite proud of the upgrade until I ran into a man that had 1200. And then another. I whined to Kathy that we needed more solar. “You’re just using the air fryer too much,” I lied. She agreed that we could afford 2 more solar panels.Continue reading “Power Upgrade!”
A Tale of Woe (The Bow Light)
As you know, the month of April is dedicated to getting Adventure ready for the season. One of the obvious things we do is check all the navigation lights. To our surprise the bow light was not working. I immediately came to the conclusion that the bulb had probably burnt out, mostly motivated by theContinue reading “A Tale of Woe (The Bow Light)”
The marriage test
Every year we test our marriage with a trust exercise – I go up the mast. If Kathy doesn’t let go of the line, I figure we’re good. This year she fired a shot across the bow though. Our phone communication stopped working correctly as I was between the last spreader and top of theContinue reading “The marriage test”
Kathy’s life hack
I wanted to Timelapse some of our deck work the other day and Kathy responded enthusiastically. I figured it was because she wanted recognition for all the hard work she was doing. But she said it was simply because I yelled a lot less when the camera was rolling. She now wants us to recordContinue reading “Kathy’s life hack”
Who got the bolt out? Who, who, who, who?
Yesterday it was finally time to tackle the stripped out bolt on the engine. our bolt extraction kit had arrived and all our hopes and dreams were placed on it being the solution. The socket did not fit squarely on the bolt which made us nervous because in a lot of the videos we watchedContinue reading “Who got the bolt out? Who, who, who, who?”
We’re back!
Kathy and I are back in the islands attempting to get Adventure ready for the 2025 season. April is always a busy month because we get kicked out of the marina May 1st. We spend some of the off season planning for April but the implementation of the plan usually goes sideways quite quickly. OurContinue reading “We’re back!”
Walsh Cove, West Redonda Island, B.C.
Walsh Cove is a tucked-in side of a fjord called Waddington Channel that has the small Gorges Islands protecting its east side from passing boat wakes. With anchoring depths of 70 to 100 feet, this is one of the deepest anchorages that we’ve been in. With only 225 feet of anchor chain, we have littleContinue reading “Walsh Cove, West Redonda Island, B.C.”
Haul out in Nanaimo
Its been 3 years since we last hauled out Adventure, so after some back and forth discussions, we decided that it was time. Kathy did her normal methodical pricing comparisons of the various boat yards in BC and found Stones to be responsive, located near a city center, and reasonably priced. Kathy didn’t want toContinue reading “Haul out in Nanaimo”
