Last year I put Kathy in charge of communications in our hope that she would keep everyone updated on our travels. I thought she’d be motivated by being responsible for such an important function and made it one of her KPOs. But alas, dear reader, I believe the evidence supports the facts–she failed miserably. Sure! She started writing a novella about how she saved a seal at Cypress island entitled, How, I Kathy, Saved A Baby Seal’s Life, but that’s not done either. Thus, dear readers, I’ve decided to take over this important function despite cries of, “Just give me one more chance!”
We arrived to Adventure at Roche Harbor on March 27th. I’m sure a lot of you would like to know how we got here, but we’ve decided you’re just going to have to watch the movie from the middle, as it were, because we’re too lazy to go back and recap the previous year. Suffice to say, it was hard, we persevered, and we’re still alive and well.
Continuing on, we got to Adventure March 27th and began to evaluate what needed to be done. We’d winterized Adventure and left her in late November, so the first thing we needed to do was remove the pink antifreeze from our water tanks. After that I laid down hoping to take a nap, but Kathy had other ideas. Kathy loves making lists, and she had a pen and paper ready. You could see from the excitement in her eyes and the nervous energy being expelled from her hand holding the pen that I was NOT going to get a nap. After a few minutes, it was clear that Kathy had no intention of letting me take a nap…ever!
We had to systems to test: The water pump, water heater, recirculation pump, fridge, freezer, engine, house batteries, starter battery, solar, winches, windlass, propane, stove, oven, diesel heater, and as King Mongkut from the King and I was so fondly of saying, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. Unfortunately, some of the systems did not appear to be working correctly. This excited Kathy because she could get her pen and paper and create a new list.
Fortunately, after 34 days (I’ve lost count) we’ve cobbled Adventure back together again. This is good because we have to leave Roche Harbor May 1st. It seems our lease has run out. Where are we going? What is our plan? Well, dear reader, you’re just going to have to wait because we’re not sure ourselves. As they say on TV, Stay Tuned!
just because you’ve been stuck in one place for a half year does not mean I could not have at least “Hi! Miss you!” So cousin, “hi “. I wish you well and safety in your journey.
